Work is now underway to establish a St. Charles County heritage museum at a site formerly known as Kuhlman's Grove, which was a popular recreation center for St. Charles residents dating to the 1800s.  The Heritage Museum property is being renovated by engineer/architect EDM (of St. Louis) and contractor Schneider Construction (of O'Fallon) under the site plan developed by Parks Department staff.  Expected to open in late 2010, the more than 6,000 square-foot museum will display artifacts and exhibits recognizing historic and cultural contributions from County residents over the years.  The Department is working in cooperation with area historical societies and through donations from County residents to develop its collection.

In addition to the museum, the Heritage site will link to the Katy Trail as part of the Centennial Trail being built by Great Rivers Greenway, a public organization developing a system of interconnected greenways, parks, and trails throughout the St. Louis Metropolitan Area.  After installation, the Department will maintain the nearly two-mile, paved surface trail that will serve as a welcoming path for hikers and bicyclists entering the County across the Missouri River.
